Common Name: Hudson Balsam Fir
Abies balsamea hudsonia is distinctively characterized by its short, dark green needle-like foliage and inconspicuous cherry-red tubular blossoms in summer. New spring growth is pale green. It has a cool toned foliage that attracts birds. Grows at slow rate, this flat-topped shrub reaches 3 ft high by 4 ft wide in compact, rounded habit. Prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil with morning sunlight but best protected from the hot afternoon sun. Tolerates partial shade. It is suitable for rock garden, patio pots, specimen or container.
